The Power of Applying Branding to Web Design

The first thing a viewer sees when visiting a website is the home page, and immediately a first impression is formed whether they realize it or not. This first impression gives the viewer an understanding about who the person behind the website is or of the brand and their own opinion begins to form based on what they are seeing. Making a lasting impression on the viewer through a website is important because it creates credibility between the visitor and the brand or person behind the website as well as helps the visitor decide if they will visit the page again in the future.

Lindsay Kolowich Cox sums this up perfectly by explaining that “the homepage of your site is the first introduction each visitor will have to your business” and will simultaneously “get an idea of what you sell, why that matters to them, and how they can benefit from what you have to offer.”

This first introduction can lead to a lasting relationship between the viewer and the website but also has the potential to turn the viewer away, and we don’t want that.

Branding Through Web Design

When a website is designed well, the branding, whether it’s for a company or personal branding, can be clearly seen through the website, especially on the homepage. The design agency Ramotion explains that having clear branding right when a viewer lands on the page “tells your customer who you are” while also building “emotional connections” with the viewer. Having consistency in branding throughout a website that reflects a brand or personal brand not only helps the viewer but also the designer as well.

Having clear branding on a website, helps the designer stay organized, and be consistent in the work they are putting out, while also being a reflection of who they are as a person or brand. Through their branding, a designer has the ability to express themselves and stand out in the digital world where people’s attention spans are constantly changing and form a connection with the visitor.

Branding in a website can be implemented through the use of the brand colors throughout the site, integrating the logo in unique ways, and including graphic elements that tie everything together and make the website cohesive. This will also give the website an organized feeling and will help viewers to navigate the site and stay on it for longer.

Attracting Website Visitors

After you have your website designed and branding is present, now you have to sit and wait for visitors to come to your site. There are many ways people can be drawn to your website, whether that be its uniqueness, how cohesive it is, showing creativity, or easy navigation, there are endless reasons people will choose to stay on a website for a longer amount of time.

Branding through web design is an important step when considering how a brand or personal brand is going to be presented online and the digital footprint it creates online.
