Personal Brand Design

My Role: Research, Branding Design

Tools: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop

Timeline: January 2024 - March 2024

Background

As I was creating this portfolio, I wanted to be able to showcase who I am as a designer and as a person through my personal branding, so I began establishing that early on in my site-building process. Additionally, I wanted people to be able to make the connection between me and my branding through my social media accounts as well as business documents.

The Process

Problem Statement

In order to establish a brand identity for myself, I needed to have a cohesive brand that lets viewers gain a better understanding of my personality and my work as a designer through my branding. To do this, I needed to design a logo, establish a color palette and typography, and create a brand board that can be applied to various applications across all of my design channels and documents.

Objective

To establish personal branding that accurately represents who I am as a designer, and as a person that shines through my portfolio.

Research

Before I started to design my own personal branding, I researched other personal branding logos and examples using Pinterest to generate ideas. Through my research, I found that many brands created multiple versions of their logos for different applications across their branded documents and products. Additionally, the use of their color palettes was consistent with each of their branded documents to generate clear brand identity

Sketches

Once I completed my research, I began sketching vastly different logos that tied together my interests and my personality while also taking into consideration what could be used to fully showcase who I am.

Logo

After looking through the sketches I created, I decided that the heart sunglasses best represented me since I am an optimistic person who sees the best in people and things as much as possible. I feel like I have a lot of love to give and that is how I perceive the world around me so hypothetically seeing the world through heart sunglasses seemed the best fit for my branding. After deciding on the logo and receiving feedback, I made edits to it and designed logo variations that can be used for different applications in my branding.

Establishing Brand Identity

After finalizing my logo, it was time to incorporate my color palette and typography. For the colors being used in my branding, I chose pinks, reds, and dark browns to bring the idea of the heart sunglasses to life. These colors also being vibrant further serve as a representation of my personality. For my typography choices, I decided on Avenir as my sans-serif typeface to be used for body copy and the typeface Eloquent for titles, call-to-actions, and for my name when using different variations of my logo. I then designed a brand board with all of my colors and assets to refer back to when applying my personal branding to documents and my portfolio.

Application of Branding

By using the brand board I designed as a guide, I applied my branding to business documents such as business cards, letterheads, thank you cards, and envelopes as well as to my social media accounts including LinkedIn and Instagram so people can make the connection between me and my branding. After that came applying my branding to my website which you can see throughout my site!
